On My Mind Lately

Hello there. I’m back. I took an unexpected break from blogging (and a lot of things). It was only around 10 days or so but it feels like a lot has happened. So today I want to get down some of the random thoughts on my mind lately and then later this week normal service will resume!

Privacy

All this GDPR stuff has gone crazy hasn’t it? It was hard to turn around without seeing an email, a text or even posted letters about it. I didn’t have the time or energy to open every single thing and make decisions. I’ve been suffering from decision-fatigue for a while and this just tipped me over the edge!

Creativity

On the 19th May (at the same time as a certain Royal Wedding) I took part in a workshop with Liz Gilbert (who has written Eat, Pray, Love and Big Magic among other things). The workshop focused on creativity and Liz led us through exercises in writing letters to and from certain parts of ourselves. It was an intense, emotional and thought-provoking day and I’d do it again in a heartbeat!

I will be writing more about her book Big Magic as part of this month’s Reading Rituals. If you haven’t read it and have even the slightest curiosity about creativity and living a creative life GO AND READ IT!

Energy

My energy levels (mentally, physically, emotionally…) seem to have been all over the place lately. Have you been feeling like that?

I’ve been immersing myself in books and reading to give my mind a bit of a break. It’s certainly not the unhealthiest way I take a step back from daily life. I came across a wonderful series of books and had to read them one after the other! I lost days immersed in the story and I‘m still suffering from a book hangover now! That led to tiredness from staying up too late reading but I feel like I needed a reset and maybe this will have helped.

I’ve mixed up my movement and exercise this month. I’ve taken several Clubbercise classes and discovered I love it! I’m also working my way through Couch to 5k – it’s challenging, it’s tough and is as much a mental game (I feel like I’ve never “been a runner”) as a physical one. I might do a dedicated post to it at the end. In the meantime I’m keeping some progress notes in my bullet journal.

On Sunday morning at 7.30am after a rough night’s sleep I decided to rearrange and declutter my bedroom. I’d laid awake most of the night and decided I needed to do something to get positive energy flowing again. It’s made a real difference. It felt like it took all day but in reality I took quite a few breaks – including a 3 hour one to watch the Monaco Grand Prix! But so worthwhile. I always find it fascinating how changing our environment (and sometimes only slightly) can change our perspective.

Currently
  • It’s Half Term this week so the plan is a few adventures and some chilling out. Plus tackling the meadow in the back garden at some point.
  • We are almost at the midway point of 2018 so I want to review my goals and word of the year and make a plan for the second half of the year.
  • And this week marks the 2 year anniversary of our return to the UK after living in New Zealand for 11 years. There are a lot of thoughts swirling around about that and I hope to wrangle some of them into a blog post for you over the next couple of weeks.

I hope you’re having a marvellous May. What’s on your mind at the moment?
